who are the individuals who started the Modern Whig Party?

The Modern Whig Party was started up by veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. The first national chairman was Mike Lebowitz.

What ever happened to Mike? I had an interesting chat with him years ago when I became interested in the MWP initially.

Yeah, I miss Mike as well. As a journalism major, he knew the PR end oh so well. Mike got his law degree, was commissioned as an officer, and was tasked with terrorist prosecution. Busy man! It also precluded him from active participation. We all hope he can rejoin us in the future.

For the record, it was Mike and three other NCO's serving in Iraq that concieved of this movement.

Mike Lebowitz
Joel Dolphin
Dan Easler
Travis Humble

Mike got the ball rolling essentially as a soldiers' advocacy group, which then quickly morphed by popular demand into a political movement. The MWP articles in the Army Times grew membership exponentially. However, we never made the transition into a bonafide political movement until more recently when we attracted leaders to run with the ball and add organization.

You do NOT need to be a Veteran to be with us, if that isnt clear. It is simply how the movement began. We continue to have Veterans serve in key leadership roles and are required to have Veteran representation in the Executive Committee. To be specific it is worded "Veteran or spouse of a Veteran". So MWP will always keep its Vet underpinnings.

Veterans do indeed represent "middle America" and have a keener notion of leadership and followership than many Americans, so they're not the worse folks to head up a political movement. Those four NCO's recognized the paucity of true leadership while they were putting their lives on the line in Iraq. That'll sure put a point on things for you!

Unfortunately as regards the lack of leadership, things have only gotten worse since our rebirth in 2007. The two "corporate" parties seem to have sown things up even tighter for themselves. MWP will unstitch their handiwork over time, as long as we have battalions of citizens at the ready and willing to commit.

The first "brick" we need to remove from their castle walls is plurality voting, to be replaced with approval voting. While it may sound technical ( methodology over ideology!), it is absolutely KEY to get better voting results and leadership.
