Hi there!
My name is Jeff Taylor- I am a college freshman at SUNY Fredonia. I have been a member of the NY Whigs for some time but have not used these forums much aside from a question about possibly starting a campus affiliate at Fredonia (thanks to Andrew and Gene for their answers).
Ideologically, the best label for my beliefs (no label is really entirely accurate) would be a pragmatic center-right. Economically, I believe in only as much government action as necessary- the "necessary and proper" clause of the Constitution should be taken seriously in such matters. Socially, I am generally rather conservative but not more than is reasonable.
Welcome to the forum Jeff! From what little you've mentioned already that sounds kind of like my mentality too. But we'll see.
Hi!
A major strength of the Modern Whig Party is that we emphasize fiscal and social responsibility instead of political or other dogma. It is this that allows us to bridge the current divide in today's political landscape. Throw in a reasonable dose of the Tenth Amendment and you get a recipe that allows Whigs in different states to share a common philosophy yet have differences and experiment with the best way to implement it.
Agreed- independence and responsibility are key.
