I apologize if this editorial doesn't qualify for the rules of posting on this forum.
But I thought it was an interesting take on where the Republican Party went wrong and how it's current state will not work to solve America's problems.
Some of the suggestions made by the author to the GOP are in accordance with MWP themes and I felt it was worth a read.

No Phil this is spot on. I'm sorry I missed both the editorial and your post re. Thom is a Whig, he simply doesnt know it. Yet, its up to us to show him, and the rest of the citizens, that we're serious about it and have THE BIG ANSWER.
And that isnt simply our RAS we're developing ( a holistic interconnected series of policy intitives ), but that the BIG ANSWER is true representation of the middle of the collective of citizens; the big 'black hole' in our representation that the current system exhibits. Further, its not only representation, its more engaged participation as clearly better representation will require less centralized ,and much more organic institutions to foster true intellectual participation. Deliberately seeking new truths, if you will.
So Whigs arent anti-Federalist ala the Tea Party, we're more concerned with the msot effective structures and methods of good governance, than whether something is "too big" or "too small".
And you check your ego and your radical ideology at the door for this party!
We are, or CAN BE, Thomas Friedman's answer, we have the required core attributes.
Thanks again Phil. My NY counterpart in Manhattan had Tom "covered" if you will. Then Gabriel got a job with the Feds and had to back off this activity.
Tom Friedman is preceisely the "Paul Revere" the modern Whig party needs.
